Ipoh trip 2009
Managed to go to Ipoh last weekend with a bunch of girls (I went because I found myself more and more to be like a travelling freak)
It was more of a food trip… Since we were literally stuffing food down our throats for the whole one half day there.
And so there was 5 of us going up to Ipoh in a 3 hours or so bus ride… And we had our host ready in Ipoh to bring us on a food spree once we reached there…
And half and hour after arriving and we are already having our first meal…
This is the Ipoh’s Asam Laksa… Hot and Spicy and with a variety of fried add-on for you to choose… The stall was located beneath a huge tree and thus the name of the stall/food court is ‘Beneath the Tree’ or something in Chinese…
~The Asam Laksa~
~The Fried Add-ons~
After having that heavenly (and oily) asam laksa, we went for some desert and settled for this roadside soya bean stall… Apparently the soya bean stall was quite famous as it had made the newspapers a few times… We went to have Tau Fu Far in Soya Bean which was warm and took the spiciness of the asam laksa away. I noticed that most of the customers just drove in front of the stall and the waiter will take the order and later deliver the drinks to the customers in the car. Talk about the lack of self service… But apparently this was how things happen in Ipoh (Noticed the same for a salted chicken shop… Just drive and stop in front of it and the boss will bring a box out… Ask you if thats enough and then collect the payment.

~The stall~
~The map on the name card of the stall… Impressive right? Since when do soya bean sellers have their own name card~
After having quite a filled beginning to the food trip, we finally checked into the hotel where we were to stay for that night…
Its called Fresh hotel… And like the name implies… It’s really fresh…
~The Fresh Hotel~
~So fresh that the lobby apparently have nothing else other than a water cooler and also a few chairs~
~But the rooms were perfect if not close to perfect… This is my room… I paid RM48 for the night but after seeing how clean and white the sheets are… It was worth it~
~The room wasn’t really big but since its only for me… It was okay… There was air conditioning…~
~And the toilets were clean too.. The doors are actually see through sliding door… So those girls who were peeping in could gaze upon my hunky body get a shock of their lives…~
~There was also an LCD TV in the room but it wasn’t really filled with any Astro channels other than the AEC or something… But local TV channels were there.~
~The phone number for those who would like to make reservations or something~
For that night, we had some of the best food court dish ever for dinner… We went to a food court near Jusco shopping mall… I forgot the name.. And ordered all sorts of different dishes ranging from Ikan Bakar, Sotong, Bak Ku Teh to snails (Yup… Snails… How I just love them)… There were also crab on sales… But then… We had quite a variety already and it was also a wonder none of us ordered any crabs… But we were really stuffed by the time that ended… (There are no photos of the night because Alan was too busy… stuffing food down again…)
Later that night, we went to Breeze… A western cafe somewhere in town also where it is really very breezy due to the bulk of fans blowing everywhere… We had too much for dinner so we just settled down for drinks…
I was so tired that night (Thanks to preparing for my Journal Club presentation a few nights before that once I reached my room… I slumped into bed and started snoring
)
The next morning… I found something in my room that adds to the worthiness of staying in this hotel… But I am not saying it here… PM me to know what it was…
Anyway… After checking out of the hotel… We went to this place…
~The Perak Chinese Amateur Dramatic Association… Where everything is dramatic… NOT!!! Its the Restaurant err… The tree is blocking the name… –.-‘’’~
But it really is a famous restaurant… Why?? Because people are queuing once more next to the table trying to rush you to eat faster so they can sit down after you leave…
But what’s so good till the people take their sweet time staying at the table…?
This…
~Honestly it has been a long long time since the last time I had dim sum and hot tea for breakfast… And to imagine I have to travel to Ipoh to have some…~
After a really heavy breakfast… We visited a temple nearby… A bit of sightseeing to digest what we had…
~Acting as if I could pedal~
~I have no idea what those words mean..~
After the short trip… We went off to eat again… (Amazing bunch of girls right.. Just eat eat and eat…)
This time it was ice-cream…
~Just in case you didn’t know what I had… It was the last one~
20 minutes later…
And emerged a very very stuffed Alan…
~This was the ice cream shop we went to~
And after a bit of shopping for Ipoh delicacies… We went for our last food destination… Whoever that visits Ipoh will have to try this… Cause its their famous… Noodles with steam chicken and tauge…
And all of us went back a few kg heavier… Even the train seemed to buckle under our weight…
Last but not least… Some photo moments in front of the train station…
~Everyone is looking fatter than they were…~

I managed to capture this on my most recent visit there. Its a lot better than the one I put up before. Click on it to see it in its full size
The day I became 10 days older…
Was the day when people looked upon my Facebook and my Friendster profile and ‘thought’ it was my birthday. Yup… Crazy me decided to change the birthday date of these 2 online sites to 6th of February, 10 days earlier than the real date of 16th February.
Rather than…
And so come 6th February…
~Hey… Regardless of the wrong date, I really do appreciate all your wishes… Hahaha… Especially LeiHong’s one… Finish PhD earlier… Of course I also want… But feels like impossible…~
Why did I do this? There are 2 reasons…
i) Read back what happened last year… Part 1 (now no longer protected but still really a bit too erm… sentimental… Hahaha) and Part 2
ii) I wanted to see how many people were dependent upon Facebook and Friendster to know other people’s birthday.
So after a bit of analysis, I finally compiled all the data collected.
A total of 40 people sent me wishes on these 2 days
Out of the 40 people… 22 of them sent me on the 6th of February… Now that means that 55% of those I know actually are dependent upon these 2 sites for birthday information.
So that sort of sums up how many of us are reliant on these sites for other people’s birthday. Actually I do think that we should have our own ways to remind us of other people’s birthday
So… I’ll be implementing KeaiSinn’s way of saving phone number, contact’s name and birthdates on the contact list of the phone… And then consistently make backups on my laptop…
So how did this year’s big day go?
Well… The celebration started off even before the month of February itself… When my family brought me to makan those crabs… It was early since I had to get back to KL before the day itself… And the same happened last year too… Had my celebration with my family days or sometimes weeks before the real date… So celebrating early isn’t something weird to me…
Now due to the change in the days on Fb and Friendster… I’ve received sms and calls to go out on 6th itself… Most notably by SingYee and LeiHong… And we went to Alamanda to watch Red Cliff 2 and to makan dinner (I drove of course)…
Well… The big thing I wasn’t expecting was that they bought a few cakes and also sang the birthday song in Pizza Hut… Owwwhhh touched
Thanks girls…
~Me thinking it was a celebration with Pizza only~
~LeiHong insisting in serving me…~
~But she gave me the smallest slice…
~
~After a while, out came a variety of cakes…~
~Lit with candles somemore~
~Alan is embarrassed and touched~
~But he blew anyway
~
~Cuz SingYee said she’ll feed him if he do~
Red Cliff 2 was nice by the way… The usage of strategy in the battles are just nice… I enjoyed it even though I haven’t watch the 1st one… (Just watched in 3 days ago)…
After the movie, I bring the girls to this nice place in Putrajaya which I don’t know the name… Perhaps to thank them lor…
What place you ask???
This place…
~Nice right?~
and also where you can see this…
~A bit less nice~
But really thanks to this bunch of girls for celebrating…
Then there is the celebration in lab when Crystale baked a cake… It was nice… And her hobby was baking… Cuz lately she’s been baking a lot…
~Thanks dear labmates…~
And then there was another group whom called me out… But I think its better if I don’t say who these people are here… Because they seemed to be a bit agitated for the change of dates…
And cuz of that I’m also quite hurt
Anyway… Thanks to you too…
~Celebrated at Pit Stop at Seri Kembangan area~
~It might have been simple but I thought it was sweet~
~Making my wish~
But regardless of how agitated you may be… I will still want to say that I really enjoy that night out as well… Thanks
Thanks to everyone that wished me as well

The craziest rush ever after arriving back from Labuan
Talk about rush… I guess I haven’t really been into one until yesterday..
Imagine this
I got into the plane at 10am… The plane flew at 10.25am… The plane arrived at 12.25pm… We got our bags and waited till 1.00pm… The uncle came and fetch us back UPM at 1.05pm…
Then… We reach back UPM at 2.00pm… And then, I went to get back car at 2.20pm… And at 2.40pm went on my way to fetch the 2 girls…
Reach GreenBox Cheras Selatan at 3.10pm and at 3.25pm, started to sing K…
This is the first time I gone to GreenBox straight after coming back from the Airport…
Which proves that the 2 girls are really really professional in rushing… Haha
~I got too into the song… Emo emo emo… Hahaha~
~SingYee and me~
~The other girl is LeiHong…~
~And off we sing and drink~

Best crabs in Labuan
I ate some of the best crabs in Labuan before coming back to UPM. Dad brings us out for dinner last Saturday night to this place called Anjung Ketam which is located somewhere near Tanjung Aru… Just go onto the road towards Wong Wo Lo 2 housing area and then keeping going straight till you see a road leading away from the bigger road with the sign, Tanjung Aru on it… And the place is also closeby SK Tanjung Aru I think… Travel for about 5 minutes or so on the straight road and then you’ll see a blue sign on the right side of the road… Turn in there and you will see the small seaside restaurant with the best crabs in Labuan…
~The view at night~
~One of the stalls there… There are a total of three stalls here~
~The seaside restaurant… Unfortunately, there is nothing to see out at sea at night around here… And be ready with a sweater or wear something warm as the sea breeze will continuously chill you..~
~Steamed crabs~
~The best dish of the night… Butter Garlic Crabs… Simply amazing… I started off with the steamed crabs but had this for the rest of the night after I taken a bite of it… The dishes shown here are from the rightmost stall… Gerai No 1~
The crabs are just so nice… And the price was really quite cheap as well…
Lets see… We had.. 2 plates of the steamed crabs as shown above… And then 2 crabs of the butter garlic crabs… And then a steamed fish… And a plate of oyster sauce cooked kailan… And 2 jugs of lime plum juice… And all of us… A party of 10 people… 5 kids… Couldn’t finish all of it and ended up tapao-ing back…
The price???
RM 170
Considering that you had 10 people eating for it… Everyone only pays RM17… And then… I had my fill of crabs until I couldn’t take in anymore of it…
It felt like an all you can eat buffet of crabs for RM17… Totally worth it…
I’ll definitely come again…
Anyone care to join me??
