Redeeming the 1GB Mp3 from HP
I got a new HP laptop recently (I’ll blog about it after I got used to it a little)… And when I was buying it I noticed the advertisement for HP ‘Get Your Hands on It With HP‘ promotion which featured a free redeemable 1GB MP3 and a ‘Spot the differences’ like contest where the Grand Prize is an expensive watch…
Seeing as how my sister always wanted an MP3, I decided that after redeeming this MP3, I’ll give it to her. So begins my journey to redeem the gift.
HP Redemption Center is located somewhere within Kelana Jaya at the Kelana Center Point. I had to take 2 bus rides, 4 trains and 2 taxis to get there and back since I rather be safe than lost in unknown lands. It took me around two hours to finally reach this place (No real thanks to K17 KTM bus which was late half hour and the congested public transport)

~The Goodyear building in Kelana Center Point with HP redemption center inside it~

~The only sign showing Wisma Goodyear which I saw… Lucky I went by taxi~
The lady there was very fast in handling the redemption process and the whole process took no more than 10 minutes (Compare that to the 4 hours journey I have to get there and back)…
And walah~~

~Honestly… I like the casing more than whatever’s inside~
Now let me tell you what was inside…
And an installation cd… And that was it… Yes… I kid you not… That was all…
Now before you start thinking what wrong with having just these 3 in the case… Let me remind you of one very important thing normally found bundled together with MP3… The charger!!!
There wasn’t a charger in there… Oh… Maybe its a charger-less MP3 which runs on rechargeable batteries you say… Ok… Lets move on a bit…
I was definitely intrigued by the lack of a charger… But significantly pleased with another thing… The MP3 is shiny… A plus point… And tiny… Another definite plus point…

~Yup… Thats my thumb and the MP3 must be about the same size as the whole of my thumb~

~I like how the USB head looks like also… I seems to be very futuristic~
But then it dawned on me that it was impossible to fit a battery into something this small… And so I ransacked the casing once more… There wasn’t any instruction manual… And thus I did what I can with the installation CD and in it there was a read-me which explains on method to charge it…
When battery is low… Blue light on MP3 will blink quickly ‘1/4S on and 1/4s off’ (Should be in seconds) and to charge it… Connect to USB and the light will blink quickly (Same rate) and when fully charge the light will stay on…
:sweats: Impressive right..?
So I tried to look for the blinking blue light… And noticed one more thing… There was no ‘on’ button on the MP3…

~These are the only two switches on the player~
And finally when I figure out how to turn it on… The blue light was seen… Apparently… You’ll have to plug in the earphones to turn it on… That’s quite impressive…
And I tried putting some songs in it and listening to it… Audio sound is decent at best… Nothing spectacular or what… And I thought it was the earphones fault so I thought of changing it to the earphone I often used (A better type earphone) and this happens…
Apparently this MP3 doesn’t use the universal standard sized earphone plug… Which is another down-point since it will be frustrating to look for an earphone like that…
All in all… I like the design of the MP3 but I am terribly disappointed by its non-user friendly interface… (There wasn’t any LCD display some more)… And I’m often not the type to complain over free gifts but I do think that a well known company like HP should do better even in providing free gifts… And not some types of out-of-date, made-in-China MP3… Lets just hope that future ‘free-gifts’ are not so substandard…
*And honestly I don’t think I’ll give this to my sister… She’ll be lost since the user interface is really none friendly… I rather get a better one for her…*
Another urge of the heart…
I think I just saw one of my juniors weeping just now… Alone somewhere.. Felt a bit down after that and left her a ‘Jia you ba’ when she was away… (Frankly I don’t have the courage to go and console someone whom I still don’t really know)
Now… Was that a good thing to do??? Or was that an ‘Alan-only’ thing…?
I do not run on Energizer batteries (I do hope to)
Recent workload…

A friend of mine (Blogger for MusicBalcony) recently introduced me to a song which he has composed… And I just really had to share it with everyone else…
The song is written to commemorate the victims of the Earthquake in China…
Click on the link below to listen to it… I don’t think you’ll be disappointed…

C.A.D 08/09
Just came back from C.A.D 2008/2009… I’ll describe more about how I felt towards the end of the post… Lets start of with photos…
Now the main reason I went to CAD this year is mainly because I wanna meet up with old friends (Especially SookYin) and also to start taking pictures again (After my laptop and all the pictures got taken from me)… Rather than… (But still hoping…) To bond closer to the other batch…

~The CAD was held here… IOI Resort’s Palm Garden Hotel…~

~The pool was a children size swimming pool though… How sad right??~
And then there was dinner and the sky turned darker and darker till night covered the lands…
And it was then I found it harder and harder to take nice photos…
So eventually I settled for more eating and less photographing…
The performances soon started… And we have… Catwalks

~These are the Doctors from Hell… Especially Elaine (right) with her killer look~

~There are others trying to summon their special powers to perform (Don’t ask me why there is a white box there.. Someone wish to remain anonymous) ~

~And then there is a sneak preview of the upcoming movie Huggyback Mountain… Starring these two guys~

~Somehow… Looking at it gives me the creeps… Lucky its only a sneak peek… And not the whole movie
~

~HKee became the prom queen for her batch… She has really gotten prettier… Since the last post I made about her… Congrats girl~
Ok… Now… Down to the reviews on CAD this year…
First off… Am I full? Yes… Quite nice food by the way… Love the Honey Chicken…
Second off… Am I entertained? No really… This year’s 1st batch performance isn’t really on par with the previous few years… But… The 2nd batch and 3rd batch performance deserves a good pat on the back for a job well done…
Third… Am I satisfied with the surroundings? Nope… Unfortunately… Its in an open air environment and with all those yellow lights shining down on us… I was practically sweating my blood out halfway through the event…
Overall remarks… Erm… I have ask them this more than once… What is your purpose of doing CAD?? And sadly I guess from what I’ve seen… This is not really achieved tonight… You want to have better understanding among all people… But I don’t feel that I understand any more people from the other batch tonight… The only ones whom I really get to try and know was those VIP from other uni…
Other batch members??? Thought I could know… But I didn’t know anyone new….
And one final fatal mistake which the organizers did… They placed the VIP from other uni onto the same table as ours… And then they went off to do their stuff… Which I quote from what AhBiau said which I thought is entirely true ‘How can they expect us to entertain the VIP from other Uni?” In the end I guess even those VIP felt left out… So we did what we can to entertain them… If not they also won’t really have a chance to truly enjoy themselves as they are left to mingle on their own… I guess if I put myself into their foot… I might feel that the whole CAD was just a trip to K.F.C… You go… You eat… You go back… That was all…
Same mistake done to us as well… I felt it once arriving at the area… Felt like being in a different land. Maybe that’s why the other higher batches didn’t bother to come after they attained the highest level… The mingling among batch is not frequent… Be it either 1st and 3rd or anyone else than that… I even have a hard time to remember what their name is (referral to the book given out for names instead… And voting to those whom I know instead)… How am I to know who they are then…? And since this is over… I guess its practically impossible now for me to know the rest of the 1st batch…
Regardless of what I think though… I still think that the organizers deserve (to some extent) a pat on their backs for carrying out their role… But still it may be crucial to remember the purpose of why something like this is held…
*Just what I think ya… I know I sound a bit harsher than usual… Don’t be too disappointed… Ideas/opinions and comments pave way towards future achievements… *
I almost got conned…
Ok… On a quiet Saturday evening (Just before I left for the chapel)
*Knock… knock… knock…*
I was hoping whoever that was knocking to go away since I was in a hurry getting myself ready…
*Knock… knock… knock… (even damn louder)*
… Opened up the door and there was this guy standing there with a receipt book on his hand…
Guy: Hello ya… Sini ada berapa orang tinggal (How many people are living here?)
Me: Dua orang… Kenapa?? (Two people)
Guy: Oh… Saya dari Persatuan Gemilang… Dan kita ialah satu organisasi bekas polis dan ingin kerjasama tuan untuk menjalankan kerja pembasmian nyamuk Aedes… Kita telahpun mendapatkan kebenaran daripada Kementrian Kesihatan Selangor and Pejabat Sultan (or something…) Boleh saya lihat kad pengenalan Encik?? (I am from one something-group and we are an organization made out of retired police officers and want to help out in iradicating the Aedes mosquitos. We have already obtained the permission from the Ministry of Health of Selangor and also the Sultan’s office… Can I look at your Identity Card sir??) *He flipped through the book of his and pointed at the letter head showing some Gemilang group and some Kementrian Group and some sultan letterhead… I didnt really have the chance to really see what the letter head was all about…*
Me: Yaya…Tunggu sekejap.. (Oh ok… Wait a while *Went to take my I.C.*…Not suspecting anything yet.. Came back and showed him*
Lain kali semasa kami datang… Encik kena berikan kami resit itu untuk catat masa kami datang…(Ok Mr Tan… We are going to fog your house later after this and every year we’ll be here 4 times… Later I will give you a receipt… You must stick this behind your door so the next time when we come you can let us jot down that we are carrying out our jobs) *He wrote down my names and I.C numbers)
Guy: Ok sekarang saya perlu Encik Tan untuk bayar RM80 untuk satu tahun… (Me: Apa?) Ya… Perlu bayar… Bukan percuma… Tengok… Semua orang sini pun ada bayar… (Okay now… We’ll need you to pay RM80 for the four times a year… *I was ‘Huh??’* Yes… This service is not free… Everyone here has already paid… *At this he showed me his receipt book with people’s names on it…)
Me: Tapi saya takde duit sekarang… (I don’t have any money now)
Guy: Tak apa… Boleh bayar RM20 dulu… Lain kali kita akan datang ambil yang selebihnya… Boleh saya tahu no telefon Encik (Nvm.. You can pay us RM20 first… We’ll claim the remaining one the next time we come… May I know your phone number?)
Me: (A bit suspicious already) Tapi saya rasa saya patut bincang sama housemate saya dulu… (I think I should discuss with my housemate first)
Guy: Tak apa… Encik boleh bayar dulu… Nanti boleh suruh housemate you untuk call nombor ini… *Showed me a number…* (Nvm. You can pay first… Later can tell your housemate to call this number…)
Things seems to become more and more fishy as he keep on asking me to pay first..*
*After a while…*
Me: Saya tak percaya kamu la, Encik… Saya tak mau bayar… Boleh beri saya balik I.C saya? ( I dont trust you… I don’t wanna pay *Came back to my senses*… Can give back me my I.C.?)
Guy: *grumbles a bit.. gave back my I.C.* Ok… *Walks off*…
*I guess got robbed last few days and now someone is trying to con me again… Whats up with this… Lousy month for me I guess*
Goodbye laptop
House got broken in yesterday… My laptop is gone…
My housemate’s laptop also gone…
Apparently they broken through the front grill padlock and break down my room’s door which was lock…
Luckily nothing else was stolen… They just took the laptop… They even unplug the mouse which was plugged to the laptop… They didnt even take the charger which was also connected…
And the most heartbreaking thing for me is actually losing all those photos I took over the past 8 months… I didn’t have a backup of all those 5000+ photos…
Made a police report… Did it more out of obligatory rather than hoping something would happen… I really don’t have much faith in them… Its seems that this time its really goodbye… Old sick laptop of mine… (I would have preferred you to die in my arms than in the arms of others)
Lousy theives… Stop messing up other people’s lives…
Orphanage outreach – First Visit
*I did this post for the CSSUPM blog, and the visit was held on the same day as the Dogathon, so imagine how tired I was when I reached home… Anyway… Didn’t want to type an alternative account for the trip so I copied what I type here as well… (With very minor alterations)
CSSUPM has conducted its first visit to the ‘Our Family Home’ orphanage in Kajang last Sunday. The trip started at 2.00pm and ended sometime at 4.30pm. It is part of CSSUPM orphanage outreach program.
The volunteers:

We started with an ice breaking session in the gathering hall. The icebreaking was more of an introduction session… We started off by saying our names and age before the kids added their hobbies into the list… Most loves football and support ManU. There are some who are interested in badminton as well… And after getting to know the children there, we moved on from the gathering hall to the study room…
Part of what we had done during the visit is to accompany the children there and teach them how to read, write and draw and all sorts… I found myself having to teach Science to a Primary 4 student… I’m really amazed at how much some of them know and how fluent some of their English was…
~Walter is our art teacher for the day… Don’t be fooled by him drawing football clubs logo since he’s drawing one for the kids~
~Levina and Harrison. Harrison is the Primary 4 student I was teaching Science to… He loves football, plays in a striker position, loves to draw, loves John Cena, supports ManU and is a fan of Christiano Ronaldo, and wants to be a policeman when he grows up. He’s very friendly and could talk easily to anyone of us~
~When we were leaving… You know you’ll be missed when the kids keep saying goodbye to you even though you had already walked a distance away. I can still see them looking at us as we walk out onto the road leading to the main road. I feel sort of sad too…~
*I was a little relunctant at first to go for the visit since I didn’t know how it’ll be like but I didn’t regret following it in the end
UPM Dogathon 2008/2009
I managed to visit the Annual UPM dogathon organized by the Veterinary Faculty on the 10th of August 2008 at Bukit Expo. Now even though I am in UPM for the past 3 years, I didn’t went for the Dogathon even once so I guess this time I’ll go and visit and perhaps blog about it. *Warning: High amount of photos detected*
*I do not own any of the dogs in the photos below and credits go to all dog owners who allows me to take their photo*
*My knowledge on dog species is terrible. So other than the few species of dogs I know, I’ll refer to the dogs as simply dogs. Sorry on this~
This year’s theme is Aerospace!! Astronaut, Asteroids, Astrodogs… Woof Off!!! Now when I think about it, things like this pop up in my mind:

~Yup… Spacedogs… How cool is that right~
A series of games and contests are held for the owners and their dogs to compete in. I could barely remember half of the names of the games they played (but games like Simon Says! and Treasure Hunt was played)
There is a maze where the dogs compete to find their way out in the fastest time
But it seems that some of the dogs are really impatient to go through it since things like this happen

~This one attempted to barrage through the maze, only to get stuck midway~
There was also one dog that jumped across all of the barriers set up to reach the end zone (No photos of this). Try imagining a dog jumping over all the walls of the maze in a straight line.
There is also an obstacle course for the dogs to participate in. Its something like National Service for dogs.

~If there is National Service for dogs, it will look like this~
And then of course there are the dogs…

~This one really look like those dolls you can find in gift shops… But it’s a breathing and a moving one~

~Wonders what is he staring at~

~I was wondering why the dog was looking at me for~

~This one is resting and waiting for its turn~

~This one look a bit like ‘Milo’ from ‘The Mask’ but with a different color~

~Brothers and sisters??? Or a couple???~

~Don’t be fooled by its small size and thin figure… This is a participant of the space race~

~The dog knows that its hot so it comes with a sweat shirt~

~These two look like movie stars in the dog world till I took many photos of them~

~And this one likes to look at me~

~And this one looks like a fierce one~

~These two are the Starbucks duo… Wearing matching Starbucks shirts… Freeadvertising for Starbucks I guess
~

~Looks like its ‘winking’ at me~

~It was only after a while that I spotted this one (reminds me of Men In Black 2) sitting calmly on its own…~

~It was actually just chilling out in the pool~

~A while after that one left, this one hop in as well~

~This ‘family’ is just resting around on the grass~

~This one has an ‘Einstein’ look~

~Taking extra care not to step on anything unwanted~

~This one is so obedient that it actually lay down to pose for me~

~Eh… This ain’t a dog… But its there as well~

~Dog is Man’s best friend… Don’t you think so??~

~This is the only picture of me and a dog cause I met with Iris and she helped me to take this photo… Could have been more if those I ask to come with me actually come
~
And so that’s it for this year’s Dogathon… I didn’t managed to stay till the end where they had a dress up contest for the dogs though… Anyway… Hope those who didn’t manage to make it this year can go next year, if you still have the chance… (Call me to go too ya…
)
Oh… Ending this post will be a video of one of the stars of the day… Groovy (I think that’s the dog’s name) and his/her dance… It really damn nice…
~Anyone wanna dance with Groovy??~
Being a volunteer demonstrator
I helped out being a demonstrator for a practical session for a bunch of second years a few days back. It was truly a good experience. The title of the lab was electrocardiogram and heart pulse. Now frankly I’ve done this practical before a year or two years back and during that time, I haven’t the slighest idea what I was doing.
And now I have to be a demo to truly understand what its all about… I guess I was a bit of the ‘other-people-are-doing-their-practical-while-I’m-doing-something-else’ type of person. And the ironic thing is, I saw many of this type of students in the practical session… Hope they do some reading up though or they’ll end up like me…
Anyway… I was looking for the poster of the upcoming dogathon in UPM… Its on this Sunday from 7am onwards… Here’s the link: http://www.vet.upm.edu.my/~dogathon/
While goggled for it… I came upon something else regarding the Faculty of Vetrinary Studies… Here: http://mimi-qoink-mae.critters.com/main.php?action=view&mem_id=2292.&page_no=5
How can things go on like this…
